Draining fluids & splitting the Transmission & Transfer Case I rolled into the empty stall and am ready to drain all the fluids. I removed the engine with tranny attached, although it went well if I were to do it again I would separate it first to make an easier lift. The hoist can...

Ripping apart the Dana 44's From here it was time to get the chassis out of it's current location and into the next stall (under the body). I'm doing this to have room to work on everything else until I need to cut off the control arm mounts on the frame. I need to gather any parts that I...

Upgrading to the next level RDE2ROK

I just read your whole thread from post #1. Fantastic effort here! You have created something special, you must be proud. A couple questions: Do you have any idea what your entire weight is right now ? You mention you still have the 3.8, are you finding there is plenty of torque for...

    Cordless Impact Gun?

As a mechanic I switched over to cordless. Milwaukee m18 Fuel - 1/2" , 1/4" and grinder. Dewalt 20v max - 3/8 inch, work light and drill. They are very tough. If you have giant hands I would go with Dewalt for everything, but my hands are kinda big. I say this because the selector switch...

Part 7 - Painting It is time to coat the frame with POR-15. This product will prevent rust and encapsulate the surface, not allowing oxygen to get at it. I decided to do my first coat with the color/shade grey. This makes for an easier second coat. This stuff dries rock hard. Take note, you...

Part 6 - Rust Removal & neutralizing + metal prep. It's time to make a serious mess. Before I start I put up a divider to stop dust from settling on my chassis etc. I was not certain which rust removal tool would work best so I tried different ones. I found the full circle wire wheels to...

Part 4 - Removal of engine/tranny and components. At this point it's time to strip what is left. First was the exhaust system. The bolts holding the pipes to the manifolds were seized BAD, I had to cut them off. During the cutting I glazed a manifold and put a slight hole in it :grayno: I...

Part 3.5 I should have posted this beforehand before I removed the body. You can see pictures where I did the interior previously but I want to top coat the bedliner and make it all black. Don't ask me why, I went with army green beforehand. There was nasty dirt, grease etc which needed...

Part 3 Pulling the Chassis away from body. This was a challenge as I was on my own and outside of my garage is a slope downhill. The plan was to put the chassis in the next bay but getting it in was a PITA. I used an SUV with a tire in between. Once down the hill I had to push the tires and...

Part 2 The structure or "lift". This was insane to put up alone, not fun. Wear everything from steel toe's to a helmet. I did not get photos of how I lifted it as it was tricky and my hands were "tied". I used two high Jacks and plenty of wooden blocks. I just went from corner to corner...

Rear body mount holes. I cleaned them up after and will size them to the same as the stock floor plugs. Brand new Toyo 40's, going into storage.

    BIG BAD WOLF Build ~~~~

I have dedicated this thread to my dream build. The project starts with my 2008, 4 door Jeep JK Rubicon. My passion for wheeling on a budget left me with plenty of broken parts, including a cracked engine block. In order to take my hobby to the next level I feel upgrading is key and doing it...

Custom dash anyone? Removal of heater core and blower.

I know most people keep their stock dash but I will be making my own. I do not need air conditioning or heat. The heater core and blower are taking up valuable storage room. Anyone have any ideas for the dash fab? And no, there won't be air bags. I'm in no way recommending anyone do this. haha

Big Wave! ~~ Check out the Big Bad Wolf build! Cheers.

Hello all, The name is Nick and I have been a JK owner/user since 2008. My Girlfriend, friends and family are all tired of how I only talk about Jeeps, so here I am. I took time off work and went back to school to learn mechanics so I can do as much work as possible myself. I graduated...
