Ours dims with the light outside. I haven't figured out how to make it bright all the time or if it is even possible. It is completely normal.

That parking brake is one of the most annoying things about my wife's renegade. It drives me up the wall when I put it into gear and realize that it's on.

If this is what you are talking about, I believe it unlocks the doors in the case of a dead battery or electric failure. It can also be used, I'm assuming, to unlock the shifter to get it in neutral, should you need to move it in any of the aforementioned cases. I'll look when I get home. It's...
