Coming from the guy that wants to wire a switch next to a switch to keep the switch from accidental activation. Maybe you really need a master- master switch wired in so you don't accidentally activate your master switch that keeps you from accidentally activating the switch?

Please look at the duty cycle for each of these units, the small one is 20% at 90 amps the 175 is like 30% at 135 amps. This is why people are trying to get you to save up for a better welder if you can.

Is it possible to rig up something to run off the alternator and put in a very high amp alternator?

You might find a local upholstery shop close by out there that can do the work too. I haven't had a set of Mastercrafts done, but have had a couple of motorcycle seats done on sport bikes where fit and trim are hyper critical and always had good luck.
