Mine works fine, lights come on a little sooner as it does cast a shadow, but they work like normal unless you get into a shadowy area.

I use an app called backcountry navigator pro and really like it. I think the app was $10 and it works great. You can pre download all types of topo maps in advance, from Forrest service to USGS etc. Make waypoints and points of interest etc. Here is an example from this weekend.

Headed out to the desert where the 'old overland stage route' used to run. Checked out some mud caves and got some camping in before the desert gets too hot for my taste! Pretty cool area out there.
