What cord free meat thermometers are y’all using. I’ve outgrown having just the single, wired probe on my Traeger.

Cordless? The Bluetooth cordless are stupid expensive for what they are and you need to be in range. Not my cup of tea. I just have a thermopen and check it periodically.

I have this one and it works well. I received it asa gift. The silicone on the probes didn't hold up well in the BBQ but they still work fine. For the smoker and lower Temps I'm sure they'd be fine.

Helps if I give you the link

Made some beef ribs for my anniversary this past saturday, 250F for 6 1/2 hours on my Pellet grill. I would've waited to reach 8 hours but my wife was starving.

Toss a handful in the egg whenever you light it up. You’ll go through that 20 pounds no problem. Wait never mind, I forgot you gave the egg the cold shoulder.
I learned from you.
So whats the deal with these Eggs? I’ve never even considered one till now… The Kamodo Joe 3 looks like it could do damn near everything with minimal fuel, long or short cook times, steady temps and reasonable prep times using a torch. What am I missing here?

They are great cookers. Pretty sure Dan still likes his he just has a Yoder now and I have the stick burner so we don’t use the eggs. The downside is they are a little too small in my opinion for larger cooks. I wouldn’t recommend an egg though. They are too proud of it. Kamodo Joe is the way to go.

Right, space. My pellet had way more cooking area but I rarely used it all.. I dont entertain large groups often… I just want juicy meats (not gay)… and the wife handles the sides in the kitchen while I handle the protein (again, not gay)

No that’s pretty gay. Lol

I have a large egg and it only fits one whole rack of ribs flat. You can get vertical rib racks but meh, loses all the juice. You can fit more if you cut them. A 12-14 pound brisket trimmed is maxing it out. That’s probably 9 pounds trimmed.

I know you got two growing boys. Space might be limited in the future. Something to think about. I’m not sure what sizes the joe has. The XXL egg is like $2500.

This^^^ I can confirm though that if you forget an LCD screen type probe in a pork butt while it cooks for an hour it will be fucked up.

T-Hunter, if your considering a Komodo cooker…
Get the XL or whatever Komodo Joe calls it. Think thanksgiving turkey. A smallish bird maxes out my large big green egg. And absolutely get a Joe over the Big Green Egg. I’ve been rocking mine for 10 years. Still love it, but like Overlander said it’s kinda on the back burner at the moment.

I have a Thermoworks Smoke. It’s not Bluetooth capable to connect to a phone but comes with a remote/wireless display. I believe they have a 4 probe and 2 probe option. I have the 2. Works great.

However, just like what Overlander said. I never use it. Thermapen instant when I think it’s getting close. The leave in probes are just one more thing I have to dick with and clean. The Thermapen is a shall own and use regardless if I use the leave in thermometer anyways.

I hear you on the size... but I think the 18" will be perfect for what I need. I just don't do big cooks often at all. And I think a 12-15lb turkey will fit fine for Thanksgiving. My goal is to cook some awesome meats during the year for my family of 4. I really like how the KJ can use minimal fuel and go for 12 hours without being touched and the temps stay solid because of the Ceramic. My Pellet grill was all over the place all the time. And I still want to either build or buy an Offset... so the Offset could handle Big Cooks if needed and fun to tend to on special occasions. The 24" Big Joe looks F'n Huge and $2500 is a lot of dough... I'm going to go check them out in person, then I'll make my decision. The series 3 KJ's have some awesome features and I'm stoked to not have to plug it in and mess with digital gauges that were never correct. Clean the Ash drawer, Add Some charcoal, some wood for flavor, adjust the vents and walk away. I'm excited about that.
