As others have said gooseneck is so much better. Having used both I would have to say the biggest difference is that it will be smoother and a lot easier to maneuver in tight areas.
That sucks about your luck, but in the other hand that is a very cool picture of the nut imprint on the piston. Hope you get it back together soon! Awesome build!
I don't think there is any problems, but you can trim it down and use a piece of the fender that would otherwise get thrown away to help keep it secure.
I have 5 BFG Mud Terrains 255/75 r17. I put about 12,000 miles on them and went up to 35s. No holes, patches, plugs, or rock rash.
