I’m on my long drive home with new gears.

Thanks to those who recommended The Rear End Shop in Riverbank, CA. It’s just over 120 miles from my house. I was there at 8 this morning and out at noon with new 4.56 gears. I chose that ratio to spin my 35” tires like a set of 4.10’s would have spun my stock tires. The 3.73’s I had were...

    High pinion problems?

And for good measure I just ordered a set of iron diff covers and some Artec C-gussets for them to weld on while I’m there.

    High pinion problems?

Done! I just called them and am taking it in later next week. Although it kills me to let someone else put a wrench on my Jeep, a couple of days of cussing and swearing is not appealing to me these days. Crap: I’ve spent about $15k on damned watches in the past few months. Spending $1k for a...

    High pinion problems?

Yeah... new wrench in the works.... I just went out to the shed to scout things out and remembered that I gave my press away several years back. So adding another $130 to the job for another el-cheapo 12-ton gets me that much closer to a shop-install.

    High pinion problems?

Honestly, as much as I hate doing them I’ll probably just do it myself. It’s been 15 years since I’ve done a setup so maybe I’ve forgotten just what a horribly tedious job it is.

    High pinion problems?

Ack! Never mind. I just searched for them and see they’re in Fullerton. Not worth a 12 to 14 hour round trip when I’m sure there are closer shops. Sadly, the only one I know of is 4 Wheel Parts in San Jose, but I’ve heard so many horror stories about them that I’d be afraid to let them...

    High pinion problems?

Fear not. No way am I contemplating swapping in a set of Sport axles. I’m just saying that, currently, I don’t use my Jeep hard enough to even justify having a Rubicon. Have you dealt with that particular shop? I learned about 40 years ago to not trust ANY shop to do a good job. Sadly...

    High pinion problems?

Hahaha. Current use and ultimate goal? My problem is that I never know what I’m I’m likely to want to do tomorrow. Right now a Sport set of 30’s would suit my needs. But I have aspirations of one day having a lot more free time to play hard. I’m running 35’s on the stock 3.73’s right now...

    High pinion problems?

Sorry for the barrage of rookie questions lately, but a lot of this driveline tech is still new to me. I still haven’t made my mind up regarding what I’m going to do about axles on my JKR. I’m still contemplating whether to re-gear what I have or swap in new complete axles. So my newest...

Any reason to NOT get a rear Dana 60 over a Dana 44?

I'm looking at G2 axles and find I can get the Rock Jock 60's for about the same price as the Core 44. I'm no hard core offroader by any means, but that doesn't mean I can't beat on something down the road. I have no intention on going with any larger tires than the 35's I'm running right now...

    Suggestions for a brake bleeder?

I’ve owned all sorts of bleeding contraptions over the years. I’ve since passed them all onto others. The best bleed job I’ve ever done is a plain old gravity bleed. Slow, certainly, but it’s always worked great.

Help me find some small fog lights?

Hey All, I have a Genright aluminum front bumper so my stock fog light wiring is just tucked away since there's no place to mount any without additional fabrication. But I'd like to have a set again. Yeah... I know they're relatively useless, but I want some just so something comes on when I...

How do I want to make my aluminum bits black?

Is that a spray, brush, or roll system? Sent from my iPad using WAYALIFE mobile app

How do I want to make my aluminum bits black?

I have bare aluminum fenders and bumpers on my Jeep. I like the ease of keeping them nice with a quick hit with a Scotchbrite pad, but I’m starting to want textured black. So what’s my best option for an easy to care for finish? Roll-on or spray-on bedliner? Wrinkle finish paint? Other...
