Where did your Jeep take You this Week?

Calico CA

We ran the Doran/Odessa trails in Calico CA this weekend. Most challenging trails we've done so far, it was a great time!

First hike of the season on the Ice Age Trail in the Northern Kettle Moraine. Not many signs of spring in the woods yet.

Took my dad up to Wetumpka, AL yesterday for some mountain biking along Lake Jordan/the Coosa River at the Swayback Bridge Trail. This area is so different from the typical flat, rolling landscape of south-central Alabama with large changes in elevation and rock formations. This area's geology comes as a result of a meteor strike millions of years ago with the modern-day city of Wetumpka being the center of impact of this strike. As you drive north from Montgomery, you quickly begin to gain elevation as you approach town. In fact, in some areas along the Coosa River you may find rock formations with striations that run perpendicular to the ground, indicating that after sediment layers were compressed together forming these huge boulders, something had to have thrown them into these different positions because the sediment layers are no longer shown parallel to the ground surface. It isn't much, but it is a nice change from typical plain ol' Alabama.
View looking toward Jordan dam.
