Anyone regret going to 37s?

Love my 37" Trail Grapplers. I installed Teraflex sleeves, Artec Truss, and Synergy C - Gussets on my D30 before I put them on. Even with 3.73 they are fine for me.

Looking good.

Your '11 has a four speed auto and the '12+ has a five speed. The top gear ratio in the two transmissions is different. I don't know the numbers, but I know they're different.

The 4-speed 42RLE (found in 2003 to 2011 Wranglers) gear ratios are:

1st: 2.80
2nd: 1.55
3rd: 1.00
4th: 0.69

The 5-speed automatic W5A580 (found in 2012 to present Wranglers) gear ratios are:

1st: 3.932
2nd: 2.408
3rd: 1.486
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.83

Using 4Lo's Gear Calculator to calculate the RPM with both, you come out to:

3.73 with 37's? I run 35's with 3.73's and think that's a stretch sometimes when I drive, you have a manual? I think I will C-Gusset my D30 but that's it after that saving for a PR44.

You may be right, but I thought the "small NAG" was used rather than the large. It's irrelevant for purposes of calculating RPM in 5th gear though.

That's close my real world test with my 12 auto with4:88's and 37. Like I said I'm at 70 and running 2800rpm's. But I guess a 37 doesn't measure out to 37inchs and I did recalibrate my speedometer but it could be off a little too. Do you think these factors could make that much difference in rpm's?

What diameter does your tire measure out to under load? (Mounted and full weight of your Jeep on them)

It's been a while sense I checked that, and come to think of if it was when I had my BFG's km2's. They were 37's but I no for sure they are a lot shorter than the nitto's. Good call, I will check and recalibrate. I'll repost after I do that.

Love this thread. Was debating 35s vs 37s really wanted 37s some forums scare me about going big. With D44s and 4.10 gears auto 2014 stock can I get by with these gears for a bit? Are the c-gussets something I should get done prior to wheeling? This initial build $$$$. Trying to do it right.

I was in the same boat as you and ended up with 35s because they were being sold local for a good price. Yes you should gusset your Cs as they have a tendency to bend. You will feel a loss of power with the bigger tires but in my opinion 35s with 3.73 isnt terrible. I do hate it in the mountains. Just dont waste money on a truss or sleeves. Your axle will still bend.

Mr Ty is right. Do the gussets as cheap insurance, but nothing else. You'll be fine with 37's on the road but you may find you're downshifting on the highway up hills. Not the worst thing, but when it bothers you, you can always regear.

When I put the 37s on my d30 how long do you think it will last? I'm running it til it breaks. But I'll be doing light off road but mainly a daily driver until I save the money for the pr 60

My :twocents:

C2 Axle Gussets and C gussets should be the first mod. 35 or 37 is entirely upto you and your pocket. There is more to changing tire size than C - gussets and re gear. We are jeep owners...We can justify mods we don't even need.

I am on my second sets of 35 and I am happy. Good enough for the trails I runs

There's no way for anyone to tell you how long it'll last. It might last you a life time or it might hit the crapper the first wheeling trip.

As you said, keep saving and just expect to upgrade in the future.

If I truss it and put the sleeves and the c's on it will it hold up as a daily driver? i know it like putting a band aide on it but college is eating away at any money I have and my parents won't help me with the diff but they'll help with the rest.

save some money and just gusset the C's. as a daily driver don't hit all the bumps and holes hard just because you think you can.
if you wheel it, same driving style, easy on the skinny pedal and pick good lines. like anything else, take care of it it'll last, trash it and it won't.
axle bending is not only a jeep thing, we used to have the same issue with our muscle cars running wider tire/wheel combos.

Since this thread is about 37s, ill keep asking questions. Will i be able to clear them with 2.5" of lift and chopped fenders? Lift yielded exactly 2.5" i think when the time comes for tires, im gonna roll the d30 on 37s while i save for a 44. Dont wanna waste money on an inbetween size just to turn around and buy another set. My 295s are too close to a 35x12.50 to justify changing to those.

hinrich did for a bit when he was on his teraflex 2.5". the only thing is since he has a 2 door he yeilded more like 3.25" out of those springs. if you do run that set up you might just need longer bump stops to help prevent rubbing at full flex.

IMO this is just a touch too low. You really want at least 3.5" of (actual) lift with 37s. Otherwise you will be driving very close to the required bumpstops. However, can it be done.... Yes.

So after all this great info, I have decided to hold off on making the plunge to 37s. I'm planning either EVO coilovers or DTD in roughly 18mos and I think making the jump to 37s then would be a better time. I hate the idea of gearing my stock 44 axles only to pull them out for PRs in 18mos.

Well see how ole Mauser fairs on the Rubicon this year with 35s. I might be regretting this decision! :)

Thanks again everyone for the input and help! :)
