Hard mounting a full size CB Radio, HAM, GMRS or race radio along with a tall exterior antenna, is the best way to get good reception and have the greatest range. Fortunately, installing a radio inside a Jeep JL Wrangler is a piece of cake or at least, if you use one of my CB BARs and it can be just as easy to install an antenna on the tailgate, especially if you use one of my stainless steel mounts. In this video, you'll get to see how it's done as well as how to get the cable inside your Jeep and routed cleanly to your radio.

NOTE : This will work on a JK Wrangler as well but you will need to remove the tailgate hinge cover.

I’m not sure if that seems easier or harder than the stupid padding on the JK. Either way, nice video write up. 👍🏻
Thank you. Me personally, I think it's faster and easier. The padding on the JK tended to be a pain to unzip and work around. At least for me anyway.

Damn, that’s a ton of good information! Great video with comprehensive step by step instructions and all parts and tools listed, thanks for putting that all together!

Great info, when I pondered doing this I figured I would need to route the cable under the carpet. Your way is so much simpler than I was making it. A radio has been on my list for a long time now, I've been making do with the handhelds which work fine but are a PIA to deal with charging batteries on longer trips.

Nice product.

How about someone figuring out something for the JT that doesn't look out of place or just plain stupid.

Almost to the point of drilling a hole in the front bumper and mounting one there.

Yup, handsets work well enough or at least, until the batteries give out. In addition to better range, what I like most about hard mounted radios, especially mounted overhead is that you can hear them a LOT better especially when topless. It also makes talking to others a lot easier too.

That's a clean install. I hope more people go back to using CB's.
I really like CB's and wish they would too but the internet has a way of promoting trends and the latest fad is GMRS. And, if ultimately, that's what all my friends run, I suppose I will move over to it too.
