INSIDE LOOK at CODEX - The Dynatrac 2-Door Extra Cab Hellcat Gladiator Truck Build

That thing had so much potential and completely fell flat. Not sure what the goal was, but that is pretty bad. At no point does that make me want to buy a gladiator or build anything close to it.

He tried to be different and I'll give him props for that. But I feel same way. I would have made it more Baja style if was me. Something like...20181208_230843.jpg

But I did find one way I like it better...

Well at least it has milestar tires. So it isn’t a total screw up.

🤣🤣🤣, unfortunately we’ve also opted to go with an overseas tire. I would’ve loved to go with Nitto and I actually have a set of 40” Trail Grapplers here, but they’re for a customers build. He probably would’ve been fine switching to a different tire but I didn’t see the point (from a retail shops perspective) of putting an unobtainable tire on our JT. We did not go with Milestar however. Cooper was considered but the distributor requires us to have our own tire equipment on site and that’s something we haven’t invested in yet. Soon, but not yet.

I think this build is them reaching out to the overlanding crowd. You think our shit is expensive? Check out what some of these guys spend on camping out. This build is entry level for a lot of those guys. Having said that I also think this is an overreach for Dynatrac. They're in the axle business and not many overlanders require anything other than stock axles.

I like to camp (overlanding for the non-pretentious crowd that doesn’t own convertible pants) more than “rock crawl”. Not much about this rig is suited for camp travel other than generally having storage and a tent.

Awful ground clearance, weak frame, bad rear departure, unbelievably top heavy, horrific gas mileage.

I loved Code1; this thing, however, is an abomination.

No shit! The campers can be in the $30,000 and up! Hell the RTT's can be crazy as well.

I can appreciate the work and parts put into it but it’s just not clicking for me. A 4 door set up I think would have been more practical, especially with all the storage space. Kinda looks like this one I saw yesterday. IMG_4944.jpg

They tailor the body to maximize departure angle, but then negate that benefit with that crash bar? [emoji848]IMG_1872.JPG

I think the main problem is...you’de never known it was a Gladiator...it actually looks more like a JL...so why start with a Gladiator?

I don’t understand why Dynatrac took the lead on a project that doesn’t feature their core product: aftermarket axles. Am I missing something?

Are they done with it? I thought they were still going to put axles in.

I dunno. Just saw their IG post highlighting mods and saying it’s ready for overland expo west. Didn’t say anything about axles and it looked like stock. Maybe they’re going to talk about axles in a later post. Or maybe do the axles after overland expo? The post mentions an upcoming “phase 3.” Maybe that’s where they add axles, two more doors, and a more realistic motor.

I just read that too. Hopefully it starts to make sense, because right now it really doesn’t. I’m not even sure why they’re going to an overland expo with a build that doesn’t feature their own product.

Hope they're gonna throw a set of helper springs in the rear cuz it's looking a little droopy back there...
