Radios in Jeeps and on the Trail

I too prefer GMRS. In my experience, they have better range and almost no static like race radio frequencies...

I have HAM too but I’m pulling it out and selling it. Bought one of those garmin inReach minis instead.
I went for the Garmin Montana 700i. It provides the InReach (satellite SOS and texting) plus good maps for driving and hiking. You can use it for navigating/routing on normal roads if you need to. The screen is small to use while driving and the routing takes longer than a GPS optimized for that purpose. So I have another Garmin for use on the highways.

You would not want to use the SOS for other than a true emergency so it would help to have buddies nearby willing and able to come to help you if you get in trouble.
