Hey folks, I've taken off my left side valve cover to check out the situation on my valvetrain. I've got some noise and slight metal wear showing in my oil, so it's time. I'm already prepared to replace the rocker arms and lifters, even the camshafts, but I found something that's kind of alarming. On the end of the camshafts, there's a gray paste and the surfaces are no longer uniform, they have irregular wear. It's unclear where it's coming from though. Have any of you seen this before or have any idea as to the cause? The camshaft caps seem tight and the timing chain has no discernable slack.
