Those running tons..

I went with 4.88 gearing as that is what I was running on the stock axles with my 38s. It was snappy and felt like it did stock so that's the gearing ratio I chose when ordering the UD.

Driving around with the same 38s and now new UD60s you can feel the weight of those bad boys, but the so called "snappy" went away.

Heres the questions, would it be better to go with 5.38s? I'll run 40's eventually, letting the 38s get warn for a bit.

Running 3.6 with 8 speed auto.

I think 5.38's are the minimum with 40's.

I just back from a 2000 mile round trip, with the elevation climb and head wind heading west my JT stuck in 6th gear for most the trip. It was awesome offroad but freeway speeds left alot to be desired.

D60's and 40's are getting the 3.6 way out of its happy range IMHO.

I see a V8 swap in mine happening soon.

Yup, 5.38's is what you'd want with 40's.

As far as rumors go, that's news to me and $2k certainly doesn't sound unreasonable.
$2k seems to be the going price for it. A few of my shops here around Texas have quoted that price. Looks to be the way I am going!

A V8 is about the only thing that will help and it's something I'm hoping to do soon too. 😁

And, that sounds about right to me. $1500-$2000 is the going rate for any re-gear job, regardless of axle.
