Rubicon trail summer of 2022

My initial gut feeling is I will take about 10 days off. 2 day drive out 2 day back so that leaves 6 of wheeling. I'm definitely there for the experience of camping and taking in the sights not rushing through the trail.

If fordyce is an option, late summer is probably better maybe Sept time frame but that's later to figure out.

Good to know about camping / cooking. Sounds like 3 days is normal maybe 4 depending on how good the fishing is. I grew up lake fishing in the Sierra's so I'm getting really excited to do this trip even though it's 2 years out.

Also hoping I'll have hydro assist by then on the 2dr will make life way easier.

The Rubicon was the final nail in the coffin for my bleeding steering box. I had the hydro setup at home but didn't have a chance to install it before we left. You don't "need" it, but it will be a hell of a lot easier for sure.

Your biggest challenge would be your breakover angle...I’d get it on 37’s...

I heard that there was this crazy guy driving a Jeep truck on the Dusy Ershim, which is much tighter than the Rubicon...but at least he was on 40’s

Great thanks for the replies guys. This was kinda where my head was at anyway. Getter on 37” rubber. For the amount that I’ve wheeled so far I can already tell that break over angle will be a thing for sure. We don’t need to be bending and breaking things this far from home. [emoji16] I’d be there for the scenery so would like to take it slower and enjoy it.

How do you think a 4dr with a 2" budget boost and 33s would fair out there? I mean they take stock ones down it so I'm sure it would make it but wondering if I should convince my dad to drive his too or just ride with me

If you timed it to run right after or during the jeepers jamboree I would think you would be fine.
When jeep runs it with stock Rubicons they have a team of rock stackers with them that you never see in the pictures.

Lot's of free camping along the trail, but from the springs to the Placer County line is all private property ( Rubicon Springs, the slabs, the Dirty Dozen camp, the forest ..) Bring cash to pay if you plan on staying on Rubicon Springs Soda Springs property. Late July and early August are Jamboree times, weekends are quite busy with club runs, Father's Day, 4th of July are super busy weekends. Fall is always beautiful on the trail, less traffic, mosquitoes, and heat.

Hard to advise what the trail will be like when you arrive. The trail is pretty tore up this year, lot's of traffic on the trail this summer and lot's of catastrophic breakdowns. Had multiple friends in well built rigs have some crazy stuff happen on the trail. It's a lot of fun, better to go in a group, budget 3 days to run it, it's easily done in 2, but better to have the extra day to really enjoy the area and take your time. I wouldn't wait until 2022, MT isn't that far away. Once you run the trail you'll kick yourself for not going sooner.

This sounds awesome. I was just talking to the wife yesterday about making the trek out there. I should have something fixed by then. Or the new one purchased.

Unfortunately for a trip like this I would need to plan it by this October for the next year. So if anyone wants to plan something for next August Or September I’m down

Myself, another Wayalifer and some buddies are planning to do Rubicon next August. Us from Pa would have rigs hauled out to Salt Lake and fly. Than drive to Tahoe.

Do you have any dates set? I’m definitely interested

Unfortunately our dates won’t be set until sometime next spring once the other members in my group figure out their summer schedules.
I agree with some of the above statements. Don’t wait If you don’t have to. Worth making it work. Plan for 3 days to really soak it in. Take your time.
